Our aim is to encourage participation in one of our most historic sports and pastimes. From the beginning of the Middle Ages, Archery was used, not only as a means of encouraging competition but also to provide one of the key elements of our national fighting force. The English archer was one of the most feared elements on the battlefield and helped to win some of the major conflicts against our enemies. We don't intend to take on the world just yet, but we do want to try and re-kindle the elements of competition and fair play that are some of the more endearing facets of this sport. This is a sport that can be taken up whatever the ability level of the individual and is particularly suited to those with physical disabilities or mobility problems - if you can walk or use a wheelchair, you can probably shoot! Why not let us show you how?

Clubs History

The club was formed in 2015, initially as a satellite club to Great Rissington Archers. The original aim was to support archery as a new sport for Shipston High School, using a funding grant from Coventry and Warwickshire Sport. To comply with the terms of the grant, however, the club had to be accessible to a wider range of young people and so Shipston Archers was created, affiliated to ArcheryGB, and the rest is history!

It was always intended that the High School should continue to gain some benefit from the creation of the club so it was written into the constitution of the Shipston Archers that the club should continue to support and promote archery in the local schools. To this end, the club maintains the archery equipment used and provides instruction and coaching, both as an element of the sports curriculum and as an extra-curricular club. Students are able to progress from the initial training bows and, where possible, can be loaned a bow kit which can be tailored to suit their abilities. The kit is theirs to use for as long as they remain in the schools. If they decide to take up the sport and become full members of the club, they will be able to retain the kit until such time as they purchase their own equipment.
